Default Da Nang protects coral reefs, sea ecosystem

VietNamNet Bridge – Da Nang city in central Vietnam has declared that the water area from Hon Chao to Nam Hai Van and the Son Tra peninsula is an area for coral reef and sea ecosystem preservation.

This region has a total area of 4,000ha, 82ha of which is strictly protected area, including 36ha of Hon Sup, Bai But, Huc Lo, Vung Da, and Dong Bai Bac.

The zone for ecological recovery is 48.5ha of Bai Nom and the area for safe exploitation is 3,809ha from Mui Nhoi to South Hai Van, from the west to the south of Son Tra peninsula.

In the strictly protected zone or the core zone, all activities that can destroy subterranean stone banks, coral reefs, vegetational cover and the ecosystem, such as using explosives or toxic chemicals to catch fish, massive-scale aquaculture models, mining, construction, waste water discharging, etc. are banned.

However, scientific research, tourism, cultural and commercial activities that don’t affect the aquatic resources and environment, with the participation of the community will be encouraged at the core zone and the ecological recovery zone as well as the zone for safe exploitation activities.

According to a recent survey of Coral Reef Dive Centre, which was conducted to prepare for the signing of a sea diving tour project with investment of $4 million on Son Tra peninsula, Mui Nghe water area (4.5ha) has more potential for sea diving service than the Hon Mun zone of Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province.

This area is home to 42 species of colourful corals, which are located near the shore and many species of ornamental fish.
