Default Divemaster Recommendations?

Hello there! My name is Sarah, and I'm an AOW diver with Deep specialty. I'm seeking a divemaster training program abroad for February or March of 2008, and am hoping to find a shop/location that is relatively inexpensive - for living expenses, etc.

Any recommendations or suggestions for things to look for?

Thanks in advance and happy diving!

Sarah

Where do you hail from? What are your plans for when you complete your Divemaster certification? Do you plan to work professionally as a Divemaster? If so, do those plans include, eventually, working back home?

If, as I suspect, you come from a more temperate climate and should your plans include teaching and working back there eventually, then it may be a good idea to undertake your Divemaster training at home. Too many divers undertake training in fantastic conditions and then find themselves undertrained, inexperienced and under equipped to dive in harsher conditions.

Should you still decide that your training need not be undertaken nearer home, if you let us know where 'home' is I am sure that you will have lots of help in deciding where best to train.

Best wishes in your endeavours.

Hi Sarah,

I would strongly recommend Buddha View dive school, on Ko Tao. I spent 3months there in summer '06 and did my IDC with them.

+They let DM's stay as long as they want, and dive as much as they want! So if you've got the time you can certainly get your moneys worth! Some of the guys I met had been there for 6months!
+The DM lectures are taught by a fantastic, passionate guy who knows everything there is to know about diving!
+The school is one of the biggest in SE asia, so it's always busy and there are always plenty of students to help out with.
+There's usually quiet a few people doing there DM, so it's really fun socially. The whole time I was there there were always at least 10 of them!
+Ko Tao has the best diving sites on the east coast of thailand

Hope you find this helpful!
