It is in the worlds guiness world of record. The puffer fish are considered as the most poisonous fish. As reported, they have a fatally poisonous toxin called tetrodoxin. The toxin is found in fish's ovaries, eggs, blood, liver intestines, and, to a lesser extent, its skin, .

Here is a pretty good list, it includes things to flat out avoid and those that are not good for eating.

Great list, thanks a lot for that.
I love sea food and stuff but it's true that when you go further than stuff like prawns, crabs etc i'm not that good and am always worried i could make myself sick

Personaly I would stuck to a restaurant when it cmes to fish I never seen before. But usually, in my point of view, most are edible... after I looked at that list... I can re-assure myself that if it has a fin, swims and eat worms from a hook, its safe.

i had always wondered... this is a very good thread and you can be sure i'll use the info I found on it in the future. I might dare to fish a little more and with a little more variety now.

I did a survival weekend course once and I was pretty much told that most things were edible. Of course things like fungi and what have you should be avoided, along with the other obvious things.

The same I guess applies to the sea, most fish are edible, not necessarily nice, but edible...

I love fish and shellfish...I could actually eat seafood paella all day...
