Do you have a Local Dive Store? They are going to be your best source in getting outfitted.

To be honest, there really isn't any "junk" out there that's being sold at any LDS.. There are gimmicks and "new fangled" equipment that will be more than you need. But as far as "junk," there really isn't any. You will soon find that everyone has an opinion about everything. One person will hate this product while another praises it. Your equipment choices will depend on what type of diving you are going to do and how much of a budget you have. Those two are going to be your biggest factor when choosing your equipment. Whatever you get, just make sure it fits properly. An ill fitting piece, no matter what it is, is the quickest way to kill the fun in a dive, if not kill the dive itself. Another good source of info will be your scuba instructor. Good luck and enjoy your new hobby.

I swear by DIVE RITE. BC, reg etc. the stuff is bullet proof and works in a most all conditions. I second, find something that fits and works for your diving style. Rather then buy outright rent some different gear and see what works best foor you. Also look around at what folks are using that you will be diving with. Have fun.

Almost every single diver has a pile of equipment in their garage or loft getting mouldy; this is all stuff we bought because we loved our new sport so much we just had to buy stuff for it immediately but then it turns out we should have waited, taken our time, and tried out various bits of equipment through dive centres and friends/buddys before finally deciding what we needed. If you can contain your enthusiasm try and wait till you've tried a few different bits and have figured out what kind of diving you'll be doing before spending, it may save you thousands.

Me too, but it's not cheap. I'm saving up right now for their new tech computer, and it's not even out yet.
