what should want to know if he decided to dive alone. What extra precausions need to be taken and what shouldn't be done for example.... any tips and golden rules when diving solo?

There are plenty of people that dive solo. It's abviously not as safe as diving with a buddy. I'd recommend a secondary air source for starters. or get trained on re-breathers... at least then you'd a few hours to figure your way out of trouble rather than a few minutes.

Be careful though.... my uncles best friend died diving solo. He got caught up in a cave, apparently lost his way... couldn't find his way out quick enough.

I often dive solo because i travel a lot with my boyfriend and he realy doesn't like diving. I don't want to bring a third person along with us on holidays as it isn't what we are looking for so i'm doomed to dive alone it seems

Default solo

When I hear someone say they are solo diving I picture someone by themselves in water all alone. I hope no one does that without proper equipment and training. Some agencies are offering solo certifications now.
My wife doesn't dive (or swim!). I sign up on the boat and I always find a buddy or buddies to dive with.

Ok first off since I am new to this site I must say it is wonderful. Second I have been diving since I was 16 years old (On and Off). I have been diving in alot of the countries in South America and all over the grand state of Virginia. However, I have never in my life went solo. I have always been under the assuption that solo diving was forbiden almost taboo. The reason I don't dive regualy is for the fact I have no partner to dive with but if people can clarify that diving solo is just as safe then I am all in.

I think that you should have a certain experience before you attempt diving solo, personaly diving is something i realy enjoy doing with friends and i haven't been tempted in diving alone yet

I dived solo for the first time a few weeks ago. I didn't go far or very deep but you do feel the difference at once. It even is a little scary as you realy feel alone, abandonned and vulnerable!

I don't like diving solo but i don't like diving close to the person i dive with, it's all about not diving alone realy, feeling a presence somewhere down there
