Default Hull cleaning dives

Hi

I am thinking that I would like to be able to clean boat hulls in marinas as a part time job. How much experience do you think I need for that kind of work. I have never used scuba. I am a good swimmer and a lifeguard. Any advice for me, a complete beginner, would be appreciated. I need to figure out what training to sign up for. Thanks.

For your own saftey (at the very least) you need to get your open water certification. Besides the saftey, the marina may require to see your certification card as well as dive insurance so they are not liable if you die. When you do take your lessons, be sure to inform your instructor about this part time job, as he/she will be able to help you with additional tips. For example, marinas are not known for great visibility, so learning how to dive safely in low vis would help alot. Good luck!

Tricia,

Take a look at www.padi.com they have clean up programs all over the world. I know Catalina has a harbor clean up regularly.... we're looking into going to this one as well as a few in Hawaii. But all the information about each cleanup program and location is on Padi's website. It's good to hear you like to help with that.... we need more divers like you
