I was wonder how long one can stay under water before it can be dangerous for him? What is the maximum time they recommend you to stay under water when you dive?

I never stay down more than 45 min between each dive. I'm use to doing that then i come back up for at least 30 min before going back down again , on days i want to go back down that is, sometimes 45 min is just enough

There was some guy in the midwest who stayed down for five days! It was in about 25ft as I remember.

Not sure how to answer that one..... I guess it would depend on your nitrogen loading.... I have never been one to test the limits when it comes to diving... I've seen posts similar to this one wanting to know how deep is too deep.. stuff like that and I think to myself, "why would you put yourself in that kind of situation?" Diving for most of us is purely recreational.... to me there is just no reason to know where the edge is... I can have just as much fun diving for 45 minutes at 40 to 60 feet... I see no need to squeeze out any more time than that. It's just not as fun when I'm trying to prove myself, there is enough of that brainless competition crap on the surface of everyday life

Cool

Ok, everyone hold it right there. When some asks how long can I stay down, you don't say "around 45 minutes with a 30 minute rest in-between and then I dive some more". Are you guys insane..... DownThere might actually follow your advice and next thing he knows he's not feeling so hot because he's got decompression sickness.

The correct answer is: look at and learn to use a Recreational Dive Planner. The Dive Planner tells you exactly how long you can stay down at what depth without risking decompression sickness. Learn to use one and then get a dive computer which will keep track of the Nitrogen Model for you automatically. You still need to know how to use the manual dive table though incase your dive computer fails. Here is a link to the PADI and NAUI Dive Tables: http://www.scubadiverinfo.com/2_divetables.html

Additionally, make sure you are certified before diving. A certified person would know the answer to this question right off the bat. Additionally, they would know what happens when you go to deep, how deep is to deep, how to react if you stay down too long, and what the symptoms of decompression sickness, & nitrogen narcosis (related to going too deep) are.

O, and an FYI: SCUBA JERM, you'r a community leader. Why aren't you catching stuff like this???????

Ouch! Count This Lighten up man. First of all have you seen Down There's other posts? He's a troll! A young one at that. I'm particularly enamored of his dry suit posts. I doubt his mother would let him pedal his bike far enough away to get to a pool on his own never mind never mind a dive site. Really, check out his other posts he having fun. The good people on this board take it at face value and respond as well as they can given the post. No flames just conversation. It's one reason I like it here. Really, check out his other posts and have a smile. He's doing some homework and reaching out. Reach back. Are you a Kool Aid drinker by any chance?

lol... i hope im not considered a troll haha.

I honestly don't see a problem with this post... He isn't certified, just like myself, and is just trying to get an idea for the sport and some of the aspects concerning it. COUNT THIS, next time, maybe just recommend the dive tables to him instead of the semi-hostile post against Scuba Jerm.

My problem wasn't with the question, it was with the answers....
