Skin Dive is a breath holding dive, no scuba. You use a breathing technique to dive down with so you can stay down longer. That's all it is.

So during the check out do you have to go down and touch the platform and then surface.....Do you have to go down a designated depth and come up?What do you have to do?

I can't speak toward the requirements for NAUI, I teach PADI. The skin dive is optional during PADI's open water. You may want to check with your instructor and find out if its required or optional. When I did use it I have my divers touch the platform, if the breathing is done right you can even look around and tell people what's on the platform. You'll be able to hold a good breath for some time. Don't worry skin diving is easy.

Not dating myself, but many years ago I remember doing a skin type dive in the pool. Dove from the surface to the bottom of the deep end, retrived a 10 pound brick and brought it to the surface.
Good luck and dive safe.

I think you are dating yourself, so I will too. I remember doing that getting certified at the Y back in the late 60's.
