Default New to diving!

Hi,

I'm new to Scuba, I am in the process of taking my open water course. I have only taken two classes but I have to say I am loving it. Though I have to say after the first class I thought that I was not going to be able to continue with the class do to the fact that I am allergic to chlorine after I got home I was rely sick. With a combination of over exerting my self and sucking in a tone of chlorinated water made me rely sick. So I decided not to give up and go to my second class which turned out to be 95% better then the last class because I was able to wear my mask and snorkel so I was not sucking in the water. So I am hoping that the next class is going to be just as good as we will be using the BCD and Air tank which means (hopfuly no sucking in water lol). But so far I am enjoying it and can't wait until we are out in the fresh water and not chlorine lol.

Does your instructor know about your allergy? He might be able to work around doing stuff that gives you a snootfull in the pool and do it instead in open water.

Pool work sucks! The depth is uncomfortable, there no room to manuver, the chlorine stings and yet when I started it was the most exciting thing.

Wait....it gets incredible and makes the "discomfort" worthwhile.

You ain't seen nothin' yet!

Good Luck and Good Diving!

I think you will do fine. Anyone with the kind of passion it takes to deal with that kind of an allergy can only go forward. Have fun with it, the pool sessions will end soon.

Try a fresh water rinse before entering the pool. Put both you and your gear through it. It helps block some of the pores on your skin and gear from soaking up the full effect of the chlorine. I did not think this made a difference until I saw gear two years after pool use it looked used but not bleached out. Sorry this is a cool to cold water rinse. Warm water tends to open your pores even more.

Good luck, the reward is well worth the discomfort.
