Scube Diving in New York

AM new to Scuba diving - and also new to New York.

If any can give me some advice about where I can learn in the city - would be very grateful.

Do people actually dive in New York?
I wouldn't of ever imagined, but then again it's the sea right so it seems obvious that some people must! I wonder why i hadn't thought of it before!
