Default Shooting a bag???

Ok, so I've been reading threads on here and I've noticed the term 'shoot a bag' used a few times. I have NO idea what this means and would love to know what it means.

Thanks...

It means deploying a lift bag on a reel.

Thank you! Do you think that this is a necessary piece of equipment?

Sometimes. It's for showing you position to your dive boat, actually lifting things, and so forth. I carry one all the time simply because it lives in a pouch hanging from my backplate.

Do you know about how much these deals run. Would one between buddies be enough?

Both reels and bags can be a bit pricey, like all scuba gear. I would buy used: 50lb. bag, reel with 100-150' of line.
It is not necessary at the level you're at, just carry a safety sausage and whistle.

Surface marker bouy: SMB. It is an inflatable tube used to signal to the boat or other divers on the surface, inflated by blowing it up.
