But, on the bright side, we're only 2 hours from the FL border and 4 hours from the Gulf Coast......
I guess I'm only looking for a job if it's like the one I described! LOL

I would definitely look into working for a JAG office though...I'll bet the benefits are great! ...and I am at that place where I feel like *every* paralegal on the planet makes more than I do. (but It's not the truth, just a feeling of course)...

I would even be willing to relocate, possibly, .....how close to "paradise" is "smack dab in the middle of GA"?

To explain..."paradise" = someplace I could afford at least a 1 bedroom apartment on a single paralegal's salary; a place that is close enough to some reasonable (shore) dive sites that diving after work once in a while wouldn't be out of the question, and where nice diving in the ocean is near enough to happen just about every weekend (weather permitting) without killing myself driving.

Right now I'm an hour and a half from California, and 4 and a half hours from the west coast, where the water is cold, but the kelp beds will take your breath away. I have Lake Mead within 25 minutes, but the diving there leaves a lot to be desired right now unless you have a boat (at least until it fills back up).....though there is another lake (Mohave) within an hour and a half drive, with nice clear water and pretty views...too far for a weekday, but nice on a weekend.

What do you think? would it be worth it for me to look into?
I know you guys have WARM water out there!
Or should I just be grateful for what I've got and stay put?

Yeah, there's nothing for diving here within a 3-4 hour drive. But within that 3-4 hours, you're at the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico or the N. FL Springs. We;ve been known to go to the Springs in the morning, dive and come back the same day. It's not th ebest scenerio, but it's doable. You're only 11 hours from the Keys. On another bright side, the cost of living is low here. I see all these shows on Real Estate and flipping houses in Cali and Vegas and all these place and I laugh when I se what they are paying. 5-600 thousand dollars for a house that's half the size of mine that I only paid 200 for.. Most houses in this area are going for 90-100 bucks a sq foot. Apartments, 2 BR are going for around 800-1200 bucks a month. Not a bad deal.

Ya, ...our bubble burst....and it's a REAL ...um...INTERESTING market out here right now. 60% of home sales last month were bank owned houses. The news in April said Las Vegas prices have plunged 26.8% compared with April of 2007.

The forclosure rate is unbelievable. Everyone got so caught up in the hurry-and-buy-buy-buy-sell-sell-sell-give-em-the-loan-whether-they-have-any-money-or-not market, and now the results are downright scary.

The ENORMOUS forclosure rate causes a ripple effect that's hitting a multitude of industries.....anyone in home sales or mortgages felt the impact IMMEDIATELY, (many now looking for new careers) and "investment home-buyers" have already lost millions....

...following them is anyone in any industry related to building and construction; home-building came to a standstill so everything from Architects to Asphalt, from Lanscapers to Surveyors to Lumber yards, are all seeing big layoffs....

....now large appliances, furniture, electronics, etc. are suffering too, folks getting laid off everywhere...which does what? Puts MORE homes into forclosure. It's getting to be a viscious cycle now.

Everyone knows someone who's losing their home. I know at least two. One couple moved to another city, and had to just leave their (dream)home behind to be forclosed on...the other couple is fighting, giving all they can to hold on for one, then two more months...but he's in constuction, and she worked for a heating and cooling company that closed it's doors.....it's tough.

Throw in the high gas prices, and subsequest rise in the cost of everything from produce to toilet paper and It's pretty scary around here right now.

It's even effecting things you wouldn't think of. Abandoned "forclosure pets" are left to starve and bake in garages because the folks can't take them to where-ever they're going. The "luckier" ones get dropped at animal shelters (just ONE shelter in the Las Vegas Valley is taking in over 150 dogs a day).

So many pools sit with a bit of water in them behind vacant houses that we are beginning to hear the rumblings of worry about mosquito-borne disease.

Even the casinos aren't going un-touched...with the cost of travel multiplying there is a cut in tourism....and the newest employees (some of those folks that were looking for new careers) are being let go again.

You know...there are only a few industries that will always do well, whether times are good or times are bad, ...two of them that I know of are Liquor Stores, and Lawyers.

These days I look around me, and I usually feel pretty grateful for what I've got.

What is the most dangerous situation that you have been in?

What is the most dangerous situation you have been in but did not know it was dangerous until afterward?

What is the most interesting and ultimately useful project that you have worked on?

What is the worst waste of money that you have seen?

Do you think entry requirements are too easy or do you think the NAVY is short staffed?

No, I'm not all worked up about $200 water glasses or anything, just trying to generate some interesting conversation.

What is the most interesting and ultimately useful project that you have worked on? I teach CPR. The students always surprise with things that have happened.

What is the worst waste of money that you have seen? The Government, enough said.

Good Job.
