| New website - Your thoughts Hi - im new on here and just looking for feedback....
Im a Dive master and my colleague an MSDT
Im also a web developer and am currently working on a new website. This is to be a community website (like myspace) but solely for divers around the world. You can create a profile, upload your pictures, dive videos, meet dive buddies, place ads selling your equipment, shop for dive equipment aswell as maybe even log your dives etc....
Its all still pretty much in the development stage and just wondered what you - the divers out there - thought of the idea??
Any comments?? suggestions would be welcome
Thanks |

| Hi Paraleadogg
Welcome to Divingtalk.
We are a well established community that specializes in diving for members throughout the world. It is a place for members to exchange and upload photos. We also enable divers to meet up and exchange information. It fact this site is very popular. I don't think you would be offering much new our members. |

| Without being disrespectful - we believe we would. By offering a site that is a far more visual experience. Plus we are not after YOUR members.
Correct me if im wrong but is this site nothing more than a forum or messageboard allowing people to share pics via their posts??
what we are proposing is a myspace type community were all pics and videos will be grouped together and ranked according to popularity, members will get their own email, there own IM, they can search other members by location, certification, log all there dives including graphs. meet buddies etc
Also the lastest news from all round the world all in one place!!
Sorry if you feel threatened - were not here to take peoples members. Plus - if your as good as you say you are then you have nothing to fear..... |

| I like the way this web site is run. The forum is very friendly and open to questions, good, bad or goofy. I don't want to see my pictures rank according to popularity. I like giving advise in an open forum like this one. I'm not sure I want people looking for me based on my certification. The only change I would like to see to the website is having a few people who are into photography and can share more information of what they have learned and the gear they have learned with. |

cheers | I am sure that there is a place for something along the lines that you have thought about, however I think you will find that the general concensus will be that a more informal format...such as we have here...is likely to be more preferable.
When something becomes regimented in any way, it can put people off, especially those who dive (or any other activity) as a hobby or a second part-time profession.
We wish you luck in your venture, whatever you decide it will be. |

| like it I think it's a great idea
I would love something like that, as well as enjoying being part of a site like this one too.
I can see why the management of this site would get a bit defensive about your post, but I don't think you'd be stealing anyones members. I am a member of 4 forum style diving websites and love to post on them all.
good luck |

| The Net is big enough for everyone, I don't think anybody is trying to steal members. Good luck with your site.
Personally, I get different things from different sites. I hang out and am a mod on a site specializing in midwest diving, check out another one for tech info, and a couple of others for used gear and other stuff.

| I think that the original poster on this thread is now long gone.
However, I am with MgicTwnger on this one. The net is big enough for all tastes. Many of us are either registered to several other sites or have been in the past. We are all free to enjoy other forums, and indeed learn from them.
I like this site for the simple reason that everyone is friendly and, in all the time I have been on here, none of the postings have been in bad taste or hurtful to other persons or agencies. That cannot be said for some of the 'bashing' that goes on elsewhere.
puccafish. You are from the Coventry area. I suppose you will have dived Stoney Cove? |
