Default Scubaholic back in the water soon!

Thanks for all the support you have given me throughout my "trying not to pout" posts! ..... Only 3 more days and I'm back in the Water!!

Like any good Scuba-holic I'm wasting no time.... Friday after work, it's straight to the lake with my Sweetheart for an afternoon dive followed by a night dive.

The tentative plan includes three more dives on Saturday, one late morning,
one afternoon, one night. Then Sunday, two more.

By Sunday evening I should be exhausted - and have my gills back! LOL!

I Can't Wait to get re-aquainted with all my fishy friends (I just love the fish!), and to get all back in sync.....because NEXT weekend it's off to the Channel Islands!!

by tomorrow afternoon, I'll probably be counting down the hours!

thanks again, guys! ---- So who else is diving this weekend?

Glad you made it back. Take care of your gills .

I'll be out this weekend with the rookies. I hope to get to the north shore where the school bus is the younger guys always seem to like it. Two guys in the group are a Father and Son, they are leaving with the boy scouts next week for a dive boat for a week they are very excited.

We have a school bus down here in Lake Mohave, too. My Buddy and I have a tentative plan to go check it out this fall. There is a van and boat near it too. .... I'm looking forward to it!

Have a great time!

Hey Vegas,

Hope you had better vis. On the bad day we had three feet. On Sunday I went to a different side of the quarry and had 10 feet. The guys mostly were feeling out there new scuba wings on Saturday. I had them working with compass from dive 2. By the time they did a fun dive on Sunday I could call out any location and they could navigate to it. I had three students who were heading out doing boat dives and I know they will not be lost because they could not use a compass. I reminded them not to go to deep because clear water is deceiving in depth. The deepest they were during training was 40 feet. But I promised them they would not have the thermal clines like at the quarry.

Default Scubaholic weekend!

Hi! Thanks for asking!

Friday, my (Sweetheart) buddy & I headed to the Lake right after work, met up with my instructor (and friend) and a student that was in my O/W class back in April. The plan was 1 dive before sunset, and one dive after. Despite a stiff wind, surface chop, and not-so-good vis, we all had a fun first dive.

Fierce looking thunderstorms rolled in so we called the second dive.

Saturday was Amazing! We could not Possibly have asked for better weather.
There were 6 of us and the first dive was a deep (not TOO deep) dive with a couple of bass making appearances and following us around for a bit.

3 of us went on Dive #2, which was sort of a "search & recovery mission" -- to find, lift, and move a training platform to slightly deeper water (as the lake keeps dropping FAST) so it could be used for classes again. very cool. (I am now interested in learning alot more about "search & recovery" - so we know what class I'll be taking as soon as I'm done with the Nitrox class! LOL!)

Dive #3 my Buddy & I scooted around on my instructor's DPV (my second dive with one, and his 3rd) for almost an hour, buzzing by my instructor and his buddy now and then to wave "Hello" and scoot off again -- and earning my specialty card in DPV. (I am now VERY clear on how far away I have to hold my compass from the scooter for it to read correctly! LOL!)

Three of our party left in the early evening, while my buddy, instructor, and I waited for the sun to set. What a gorgeous night! NO wind, warm, moon just about full, thin high clouds....wow!

Dives #4 & #5 were wonderful long relatively shallow dives, in the company of dozens and dozens juvenile crappie, striper, a frisky catfish, and one giant crawdad that waved his little pinchers in the air like he was telling us to get out of his lake or he was gonna take us all on!! (we joked about it and nicknamed him "the Crawdaddy" - LOL!) that also concluded my dives with my instructor for a card in night diving as well

We made it home sometime just before 11, and that was all she wrote.

Sunday we met for dinner with four of our diving friends, and watched videos of one couple's dive trip in Cozumel, then the trip we all went on to California when we dove with the Sea Lions.

What a Great weekend!! -- and next weekend? Thursday night it's off to the Channel Islands again (San Clemente I think) for two days on a live-aboard called the Sand-Dollar! Whoo-hooo!

I do believe I am in full-blown addiction. (Are my gills showing again?)

Sounds great Vegas! Glad you're having fun. I'm looking forward to diving here real soon. Just signed up for the class last night, and got my mask/fins/snorkel last weekend.

Since I have the freedive gear, I'm going to take it along this weekend to Lake Mojave and put it to use. We stop at a nice little beach, about 12 miles South of Willow Beach (where we put in) that's almost across from Nelson's Landing. On the charts, it's called Dolly Hill Cove. Anyway, just want to get some wet time with the gear before jumping into the class.

The other guy that I usually boat with is certified as an assistant instructor with PADI, but since it's been quite a few years for him, he's going to take the class with us again anyway. Really looking forward to it.

What places have you dove on Lake Mead? What did you like the best?

. . . . snip. . .

Congrats on signing up for classes! If you enjoy them HALF as much as I did you will be hooked for life!!

As for Lake Mead, We used to putter around the Scuba Park alot, but with the water level so low, there's no where left to dive there....the new "hot spot" for shore diving (you can see classes and groups of divers out there every weekend) is Saddle Cove. Fun terrain, enough to see to keep it interesting-- although, this time of year vis isn't going to get past 15' if that good.

We have also dove out at the Batch Plant.... almost the entire thing is up out of the water now, but there is still all kinds of interesting debris, railroad ties, rails and such that used to be too deep for recreational diving, and is now in easy reach.

There are several other spots too --- you can PM me if you want and I can give you the #s to my 3 favorite Dive Shops in town - all have tips on great places to dive locally.

Right now my favorite is Night Diving at Saddle Cove. It's unbelievable how many fish show up as soon the sun sets!
