Default New To Diving.

I'm new to diving, but I love ilt. I just finished my advanced training yesterday. It was a blast. I got to try out my Titan Reg and my Cobra dive computer. The reg worked great int the water and helped alot on the deep dive when it was insanely cold.

By far my best dive was the night dive. I was neutral right off the bat and had no trouble keeping it that way. Saw TONS of good sized Jack fish (Northern Pike) and hundreds upon hundreds of small perch sleeping on the bottom. Got to play with my light .

Where was the dive, and please define "insanely cold"?
Get ready for some interesting responses from the hard cases around here.
And by the way, welcome aboard.

I second that.

And yes we love details like depth, temp, vis, pics, and of course good stories!

Sorry but I couldn't take pictures. The dive that my buddy and I had planned to take pictures was our last dive, but some people had been driving a jet ski, so the vis was nil for the longest time, then when it was a little better my buddy stirred the crap out of the bottom. We were doing search and recovery and he was so focussed on finding the object, he forgot to get neutral and had been draging himself for about 20 kicks untill we did the next turn in the U-patern we were doing and we couldn't see anything... So that ruined the vis and all possabilities of pitures.

Alright so my Max Depth was 89 feet at altitude so probably a little deeper than that.

The first thermocline was at around 18 feet. Very abrupt and cold but felt like heaven when coming up from the 89 feet.

It was 46 Degrees (F) at the bottom. Since in Canada we use Celsius, I converted it so it was about 7.78 degrees down there. Personally, I think thats really cold.

ALSO There were these squishy white organisms (dunno if a plant or what) in the lake at about 20 ft that looked like coral. But seeing as this was a fresh water lake up in Alberta it cant really be anything from salt water. They grew usually by dead trees and there was a huge cluster of them by a large stump. Like the ones I had been seeing were maybe the size of my hand, but these were like the size og my head and bigger. I'll try to find a picture.

I love it "squishy white organisms". I suppose it's obvious how you know they were "squishy"!

46 IS cold but come on...insanely? That would mean if you went back and dove again... say next weekend, that you were insane and that can't possibly be true because I've dove 42 the past two weekends and I"M not insane! Well.....not much.....

Cold? Oh yeah. Insanely? Not quite!

I love your style though. Sounds like you'll make a good diver.

Besides it's not really cold until the ice crystals hit you in the back of your mouth!

Didn't call the dive because of cold though did ya? See! You'll do well. Being unshakeable even in poor conditions makes you a good buddy to have around.

Take rescue diver you'll like and it will really add to you confidence

Welcome, Welcome, There seems to be a big deal about temps. One November 1st, I dove the quarry, it was 38 (F), I said to myself at the time, this is insane. It was during my divemaster and I was with students. One hurt her ear and I was sent up with her. Darn!!, We changed and spent the remainder of the day warm and dry. I made hot chocolate in the little club house and gave it to the divers who dove. It is the first and last time I will be that cold diving again. I was in a 7mm. I have no problem admitting I like the water warm. , it may not hurt to take a dry suit course in Canada.
