Default Newbie in Las Vegas

Hello out there. Just joined up and wanted to see how many other Las Vegas divers are on board.

My roommate and I just signed up at Sport Chalet with Tim Wetzel for the PADI OW & National Geographic class starting Aug 21. Looking forward to the class and already started on the manuals.

Where do you Vegas divers dive? Being a boater, I'm quite familiar with some areas of Lake Mead already (Boulder islands, Horsepower Cove, Wishing Well, Cathedral Cove, etc) as well as Lake Mojave and Havasu. Our 6 OW dives for the class are held just North of Katherine's Landing in Mojave (where the school bus is). Can't wait to get started.

Welcome to the Board!

Vegas isn't a bad place to be diver.....There is lots of fun to be had locally...and California isn't too far away!

I don't know if you've looked around at all, but there at least 5 LDSs in town in addition to Sport Chalet --- I have 3 favorites....each are great sources of information, charter all kinds of diving trips, and one offers a free workshop each month on underwater photography if you join their club.

I just got certified around the end of April and logged dives 31 through 38 this last weekend out at the Channel Islands.....Life is Good!!

Keep in touch, and Please keep us updated on how your classes go!!

Will do on the updates. I bought my gear at Blue Seas...Chris there was VERY knowledgeable. Also been to Dive Views and the shop at 95/Rainbow curve. Dive Views people were very nice and friendly. I'm so new into it though, I have no idea what to look for or listen for.

I'll figure it out with some time. Thanks for the heads up!

Heres a link to the Nevada SCUBA Retailers Association - they charter trips, sponsor eco-dives every month, and all sorts of stuff!

Thanks, got it bookmarked! BTW, I've seen you make mention of 20! dive shops in Vegas, and you have your fav 3. Would you mind sharing your list (here or by PM)? I've only been to the ones I listed above. Would love to see your reviews/favs, etc.
