We run a boat out of NJ and recently brought it down to NC for the winter. The Bluefin Tuna bite is slow but we see them balling up the bait so we want to rig a speargun to an outfit on the boat and try shooting one. First of all is this legal and secondly has anyone attempted this before or have any ideas or input they would like to share? Thanks.
Anyone lokking for dive info off of NJ or NY please feel free to ask. I am a DiveMaster with specialty certs in u/w photo and video, dep, wreck and search & recovery. Currently I have 250+ dives. I stopped logging after 250 qand that was back in the mid 90's. I did a lot of Carribean dives as well as in the Pacific. I will be glad to assist in any way possible.
MgicTwnger thanks for the reply. I live in Brick and run my boat out of Belmar and I am also part of a crew thats runs another boat out of the Manasquan inlet. Haven't been diving as much recently due to raising kids and that kinda stuff but looking to get wet again this spring. BTW - I found out it is illegal to spear a Blu Fin Tuna - oh well, looks like my next trip to the canyon next summer I will have to shoot a Yellow Fin instead.
I grew up working on Bogan's party boats. My last 10 years in NJ I lived in Forked River, grew up in Normandy Beach and Perth Amboy. My ex is from Brick.
Small world.

Yeah it really is a small world. The boat I run is in Brielle right behind Union Landing and the Sand bar. Funny my family has a beach house in Lavalette on Princeton Ave.
