Default Last trip of the season

This Saturday will be the final trip of the year for me up to lake Michigan. The dive boats stop running in a few weeks not so much because of the cold, but because of the winter winds.
As I have been doing for the last few years, I have chartered a boat, put together a group of divers, and pray for calm seas. We will be on the Enterprise out of Waukegan, a town just south of the Wisconsin border half way between Chicago and Milwaukee. It's about my favorite charter boat: a 42 foot, 30 ton steel ship which doubles as a salvage vessel. The captain, Dale Bennett, is a TDI tech diving instructor, and what he doesn't know about wreck diving in lake Michigan isn't worth knowing.

Right now I have two worries: the weather and how much my wife will spend. We're staying right next to the area's biggest shopping center and she's meeting up with her college roommates for a shopping expedition. Yikes!!!

Dive report to follow.

That's why I could never live up North. We have trips scheduled for October, November and January. Of course, it's N FL Springs trips and no wreck diving, but it's still blowing some bubbles and swiming with Manatees (The January trip).

Looking forward to your dive report..

We actually have close to year-round diving in quarries and smaller lakes, if you don't mind your gear freezing in the air and a little frostbite.

Too bad your dive season is so close to ending. How many did you log this year?

Don't know, about 40-50 so far. It just ends on the big lake, not quarries and such. And I'm doing a week in the Keys in December. If you have a drysuit and plane fare, the season never ends!

Yeah, I know about COLD weather diving. I dove at Morrison last January and when we got out of the 68 degree water, we had to deal with 51 degree weather. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..

LOL!! I know I don't know what REAL cold weather and water is. And, you know what, I'm fine with that. I'm a true born and bred Southern Boy. I HATE cold weather. That's why, when I got out of the military (the first time) I moved back down South, where the women are hot, the men are men and cow tipping is an acceptable Saturday Night date.
