This is a training site for divers in Illinois, mostly north.
I had students ranging in age from 10 to 50. Four open waters, thats where the 10 years olds were. One did not pass, he freaked out

. We told Dad to try again when he's older and has more experience in the water. Some kids are not ready no matter how much their parents want it. The other guy did great and had a good time. The other open waters did great. With a small group I was able to take them all over the quarry, they got to see a lot. The therm-cline did not start until 30 feet so it was real warm.
I also worked with students doing advanced diving. I kept pushing them to use there compass and by the deep dive they had it down. They did great. Sunday was the deep dive, first dive, then search and recovery to finish.
The only part I do not like about the deep dive is the swim out to the hole. After getting out there you have to wait get everyone set and dive. All my guys did great. The thermal-cline first hit and 30 feet, then again at about 45 feet, then once more at 60 feet and temps petty much stayed cold from that point. It was nice coming back up. Not much fish life and vis dropped out after 50 feet, it was cold, dark, and 3 to 4 feet vis. Those are the points I always ask myself, why do I do this. Fish life was very small and not so see in the colder waters. Up beyond the thermal cline there were lots of fish. Mostly lake fish and small. 2" inches and up. Over all a good weekend.
