Celebrities, including actor Nigel Havers joined 500 others at a West London swimming pool to break the world record for the world's largest formal underwater dinner party. Following an introductory scuba session, guests donned dinner jackets and ball gowns to sit down to a three-course meal at the outdoor swimming pool at The Park Club in Acton on Saturday.

The meal of smoked salmon, vegetables and toffee apple was set in jelly to prevent it from disintegrating in the water. In groups of 20, diners had to eat the food with their forks, removing regulators for each mouthful.

Divers from the London School of Diving in Chiswick provided surface and underwater support as well as helping to serve up the meal. More than £200,000 was raised for charities, including The Shooting Star Hospice, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The British Heart Foundation.
