Default Deciding on course length

Hey everybody, I had a question about course length for getting my OW certification. I've been told repeatedly that the longer courses are better, but are the 3-day courses good if you can absorb lots of information quickly and have dived before (Discover Scuba) with no problem? And has anyone actually taken the 3 day course?

I would say that longer is better. Despite what you may have been led to believe, diving is not simple or trouble-free, and training and experience make all the difference.

I teach what is referred to as an executive course. It takes two days in the pool then a weekend at open water. You are responsible to read the book and be ready to take the tests and exam. I learned old school over several weeks and have also taught courses this way. The biggest rule for you to remember is you will only be an open water diver after certification and should with out question take further training and go dive and get experience, it the best teacher, but stay with in your guidelines for your level of training.

I agree with Scuba Mama.. I DM the weekend classes and as long as the people have done the home study prior to showing up to the class they are good to go. You can concentrate on "refeshing" the learned material and then just have fun learning the diving portion in the pool. You'll have no probelm learning the basics over a weekend class.
