Question Do you need to wear a wetsuit

Do you need to wear a wetsuit? If so why? You see on the films some divers do and some don't.

Any water you go in that is cooler than body temperature, you loose heat. Even if you are not uncomfortable, repeated dives without exposure protection can lead to hypothermia and increase the risk of decompression illness.
A suit also protects from stings and cuts. Just about anything you come in contact with on a coral reef can hurt you somehow.
