Question How does someone choose a scuba instructor?

What should the complete novice look for in an instructor, what should be avoided...and why?

I wanted someone I could trust and felt he knew what he was doing. I found someone in my area just like that. I ending up studying with him, all the way through instructor.

He was able to teach me things that are not in the book about attitude how to conduct a classes that are fun, not use learning book stuff.

For me this was the prefect instructor. Your needs maybe different.

As with most things if red flags are going up, trust yourself and back away.

You need to know your instructor has some experience, is current in training, it is o.k. to ask to see there certification cards. I willing show mine if asked. It shows that I am current and certified to teach. It also shows my current level of training. Even instructor have a chance to continue training up. The more they do the more experience they have.
