Most new divers are a little anxious during there first experience. Will the regulator work. Why can't I get down. The water seems deep, I can't clear my ears. Water is getting in my mask, what do I do?
There is a reason for taking new divers to the shallow end and just letting them breathe. Most divers will know if they are hooked from that point are not. I have had some come back up and what nothing more to do with the sport. Here is where you have to be aware scuba is not for everyone and keep an open mind. Talk with them if there fear is something that can be overcome try again. If not, this is where the student should have shopped ahead. Make sure what the return policy is before you bail out of class. Ask questions, before signing up, can I return my gear after the first pool class, can I get my money back for the portion of the class I did not complete. Is there a store credit and how long will I have to use it. Most places will not take back the mask, fins or snorkel, however, you can use your gear to free dive or snorkel around at the surface, so you can use the gear.
There is really no way to tell off the bat is someone is going to do well and someone who will washout. |
