Default Time of Day

What is the best time of day to dive? Morning, noon or night? If there is a preference why?

Morning or noon is a toss-up. It depends on the weather. Obviously, the brighter it is, the better.
Night dives are a whole other thing. It is a much different experience that requires good lights, keeping a sense of where you are both horizontally and vertically, staying close to your buddy/group, etc.. People seem either to love them or hate them.

Level of training will control some of the timing. When first learning daylight hours only. After getting night diving skills then the time line is more open.

I like early morning but I take pictures so good light is important. I also love night diving just becuase of the change over in the ocean is so great.
