Question What is Nitrox

What is it and what does it allow you to do over and above what can usually be achieved in scuba diving?

Nitrox is mixed gas diving. The air has a higher pure oxygen mixed into it. Any thing over 21% such as 22% most mixes for normal nitrox diving will not exceed 40%

After (40%) this point you are starting to get into technical diving.

The advantage to air diving 21% is less nitrogen being absorbed by using Nitrox. So, it means you can stay longer at depth but not deeper then air diving.

Get training before using mixed air.

There are also disadvantages associated with NITROX. (or Enriched Air Diving) Oxygen, in higher doses, becomes toxic at deeper depths. That's why training for NITROX is absolutely essential.
