Default anyone diving soon?

Anyone going diving this coming weekend?

My buddy & I had planned a trip down to Lake Mohave to check out the school bus in Cabinsite Cove, but I think we are changing our plans.

There's an Eco-Dive here in the Las Vegas Bay Marina on Saturday - and with all the give-aways, the great lunch they usually cook up for us, and getting to see and dive with so many friends, we might stay in town for this one.

So what's everyone else up to?

btw, if you want to take a weekend trip to Vegas, you are welcome to join us for the Eco-Dive!

I thought you were in the middle of a desert?

I've got one more quarry trip planned, then the Keys second week of December. This weekend is filled with Veterans day/cemetary gigs.
Don't ask.

So what exactly does an Eco dive entail that a dive in the location does not? Is it a clean up dive?

I'll be heading out to Las Vegas in February. Probably dry dock however, hope I'll be swimming in chips won.

In April the blue water trip to Little Cayman .

Other then that I am teaching some weekends at the pool during the long winter months.

I am flying back to the UK from Africa on Saturday, meeting the wife, having a one night stopover and then flying over to New York for a few days. Quality!! We are both really looking forward to it.

Ken, I have been warned not to mention your name whilst in the Big Apple! Something about witness protection and outstanding warrants

Will hopefully be doing some diving when I get back home for a few days before travelling back to Angola

Yup! an "Eco-Dive" out here is generally an event sponsored by a business or organization...there's a 'retailers association' (a group of LDSs) that sponsors them...I've also been to one sponsored by "Shark Reef" (Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas) that was alot of fun.

They promote the event through e-mails, flyers, word of mouth, and communications to any local dive clubs....the events consist of, usually, morning sign up, a free T-shirt, two clean-up dives (non divers can sign up and pick up around the shore areas), a big bar-b-Que lunch, lots of socializing, and then drawings for gifts and prizes.

Sometimes a rep for one manufacturer or another will come out and promote their stuff (We had a Scuba Pro rep out in September with all sorts of equiptment to demo)

When the clean up is in the marinas they will go at set times and restrict boat traffic in the area. - often the organization will supply large mesh bags to load up with trash and whatnot - and sometimes there are volunteers paddling around in kayaks with empty bags to trade for full ones if you get all loaded up.

Sometimes there are so many donated prizes that Everyone wins something. My sweetheart & I have won gift certificates to the LDS and a kayak trip for four down the Colorado River! Fun stuff.

Always a great time!

let's see....Febuary....are you sure you want to stay dry? I am sure we will be having an eco-dive some time in Febuary.

....and last night at a party my buddy and I won a 2 for 1 certificate for a two tank dive on a Lake Mead charter (Feb 9th I think). So if you want to get out to the islands (I love diving Sentinel Island) in Lake Mead - you would already know someone on the boat! It's not Little Cayman by ANY stretch of the imagination, but If you'll already be in town - why not blow a few bubbles in Las Vegas's drinking water while you're here? <grin>

Default didn't dive cabinsite cove

I had a bit of congestion, and my sweetheart had bronchitis, so no diving at lake mohave a week ago....that's OK though....we had a really nice camping trip.

The temperature is finally suppose to drop into the sixties around here on Thanksgiving day, but then start going up again for a bit....
We're hoping to do one dive on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Vis is suppose to really be getting GREAT at the lake this time of year!

Hey Vegas,

I will only be out for three days. The three other people don't dive "weird". But you and your sweetie are welcome to come and see the sights. Maybe you can show me and my friend around, she wants to see downtown Los Vegas. I want to see some of the changes, I haven't been out for 10 years. The hotel I stayed at is no longer there.

I haven't been on in a while, I got sick with a virus going around the Chicagoland area, even the dive shop I work at part time got hit with it.

I have been out of the water for three weeks now and still need one more week to recover. However, on the bright side once I go back I will be teaching 3 divemasters. I like openwater teaching reminds me of the basics over and over but I love teaching the higher levels.

Have a wonderful Turkeyday.

I hope you are feeling all better Scuba Mama!

Definitely give me a hollar before you head to town!
I could make a couple of recommendations I suppose that might be able to make your sight-seeing a little easier....and if you are interested in seeing a show while you're out here (and we have some of the most AMAZING shows you couldn't even imagine) let me know....not only could I give you and idea about what to expect, but alot of them also offer two for one prices on ticket to locals (it's good to have a friend here!)

Let me know and I'd be happy to offer whatever assistance I can.

(I promise you'd have a safer bet on the vis in the lake that anything in the Casinos in February though! LOL!)
