Well, I got three dives in at Haigh quarry (SE of Chicago) on Saturday. The place was packed, viz was so-so, but I had fun.

Just for the heck of it I used my old Atomic split fins on one dive instead of my OMS Slipstreams. What a difference! They felt li I didn't have fins on at all. Much less thrust and control. The Slipstreams are clones of the old Jetfins made with a much lighter material.

I dropped by the scuba flea market Sunday morning before heading home because of the crummy weather. I picked up an old Seahunt era knife: great big nasty looking sucker, perfect condition, for $10. I am now an official badass.

Default maybe should have gone diving?

Well we were all settled in - enjoying our beautiful campsite, watching the squirrels dart about and the clouds roll in....

At 3 pm on Saturday a small plane crashed in the canyon next to the one we were camping in. It was very sad - 4 people on board, no survivors, lots of eye-witnesses from the ground.

It touched off the "echo canyon" fire, and all the homes and campgrounds in the area were evacuated immediately.

Sunday night, crews had gotten things under control and we were able to get back up the mountain to retrieve our gear.

Doesn't look like I'll be diving next weekend either .... but I did suggest to my sweetheart and dive buddy that we could get a couple of shore dives in on Thursday evening! -- With the water level so low (down 123') in Lake Mead it's a HELL of a walk with gear to the water's edge...but I think I just NEED MY FIX. LOL!
