But this form of diving is not for fun or sport, is ‘trophy’ hunting, the longest the deepest , the furthest into. It becomes the end in itself, and that end will end in death, eventually, well unless they see the light, and quit.

what ever sport there is, there will always be a portion of people that will want to push the limits.
ie rocking-Everest, then it was Everest on air only not O2,
Skiing higher ,faster,longer.
these people we consider nutters(this may be true), push technology further than we ever will do, invent things to do the job, then it passes down to the masses - us.

So good luck to them.I hope they never stop doing what thrills them.
I personally would love to see what it would be like to drop to 313M down, but admit i dont have the skills to do so.so will be like the rest of us and read about it,enjoy the tales, and slightly envy these NUTTERS!!!!!
Hats off.

Seeing as he bent himslef into a thousand knots on his 280m dive, then just got less bent on his 313m dive i would say - yes, he is totally barmy.

I'm not a fan to be honest - I don't like the depth records for depth's sake. Especially not when you need folk to save your life when you do it time and time again.

i think as has aready said here in this thread, the people that do this are doing it to be thought of as the best at what they do, (if thats the right term to use).

But there is another reason why they do it, and thats to do with their own psychological makeup/state of mind. There not wired up the same way as the average joe, they need to push the limits to feel normal (if that makes sense?).

Thats why in all types of sports that have a higher than normal risk factor (like Scuba diving, free diving, sky diving etc etc), your will find these guys taking it one step further, looking for that ultimate rush!!.

I love that kind of extreme sports. Well when there is danger in every step in life, why not take that extra step and live a part of life in risk! I mean like there is more fun in playing with life than living life as it is. And that is the life these extreme sportists live. They are the ones who are later on read as the heroes of their ages. The average you and me may never be remembered to even more than 50 people after our life ends
