I am the team coordinator for a multiagency (police, fire and rescue) dive rescue and recovery team. Not only do we conduct underwater rescue and recovery, we also perform swiftwater rescue, ice rescue, and lifeguard type services. We respond to approximately 15 calls per year and train monthly.

Before I was certified I was doing a resort dive in Dominican at 25 to 30 ft. My wife was snorkling above. Found a weight then swam a little further and found an anklet and shoved it inside wet suit. On the way back in boat I reached inside an said I found you a little treasure in the ocean. The wife looked down and said thats my anklet. What are the odd of finding that.

Default reviving old thread

Ok sooooooo here is the question: What is the most odd, strange, wierd, out of place, or funny thing you have ever come across deep in the ocean?
I know this is a Very old thread, but I just loved it! So I hope you all will forgive me for reviving it!

I don't have anything too strange to report, but Last week, at the bottom of Lake Mead, we found a row-boat paddle. (I'll bet someone was mad when they lost that!) ....
but much more interesting -- last weekend, on our 1st of four dives, about 40 feet down, we found a $5 bill, and 2 $1 bills scattered across the bottom, with a good little collection of Zebra Mussles growing on them. Without trying, we ended up near the same spot on dive number 4.....and found another dollar!

So! I would love to hear about other stuff you all have stumbled upon while diving!
....please tell.....

I look below the dock at a local dive quarry, and frequently find stuff like snorkels, masks, and so forth.
The best was a complete set of golf clubs, including the bag, and a cell phone. I wish I knew the story behind that stuff!

Hehe! Amusing find, especially with your user name being; "DownThere"...Innuendo's aside...

Ok, its not spectacular but I was snorkelling off the coast of Ireland in Dingle Bay (where a bottlenose dolphin has made its home). The water was perfectly clear and I saw a largish crab with various obscentities written on its shell. I felt quite taken aback!

I also found (on the same "dive") a range of coins, ranging from 1p to £1 in value as well as a Hallowe'en mask, an acoustic guitar (being a guitar player myself it did not look in a particulary playable condition) and a picture frame (which the inhabitant of had long disappeered).

2nd dive again doing my checkouts in a different location I found a weight belt.
