Who is your diving hero & why? For those members of a certain age, like me, there were two diving heros on the tube while we were growing up, at least in the US: Jacques Cousteau and Mike Nelson.
Everybody knows about Cousteau, but Nelson might be just an American phenomenon. He was the hero of the series Sea Hunt, a kind of underwater detective. A real "man's man" played by Lloyd Bridges, I frankly don't remember just what his job was, but the plot always led to an underwater showdown between him and the bad guys involving dive knives as big as your arm. We still call them "Mike Nelson knives". Silly as it was, it did get a lot of kids thinking about diving.
