Default Great Lakes wreck diving

Most people are surprised to learn that the Great Lakes is one of the world's best wreck diving areas. Cold, fresh water is ideal for preserving wrecks and the lakes have thousands of them, mostly undiscovered. There is very little plant growth, the main encrustation being zebra mussels. Wooden vessels from the 1800's can look like they went down last month.

I will be posting descriptions of some of these vessels, starting with my home area, southern lake Michigan in the Chicago - Milwaukee area. If you have any questions or comments about the fun to be had around here, or wreck diving in general, feel free to fire away.
