Default Buying Used Gear

I just bought a used Reg and I know that I need to get it serviced to make sure it is in working order. Are there any other pieces of equiptment that I should get checked out before using if I buy it used?

BCD's, cylinders both require servicing and are important in your survival.

When buying an item do your home work. Now what you are buying. I bought a 100CF steel tank not knowing that I could not replace the valve. They no longer make valves with 1/2" stems. So I had to convert My Reg. to a DIN set-up. I was going to do it any way I just had tp do it sooner than I wanted to.

I'm not sure I understand. Did you get a tank with a DIN valve that does not fit your reg or a valve that does not fit your tank?

I bought a tank that had a 1/2" stem, and a DIN fitting on it. They no longer make the 1/2" valves, or thats what I've been told. My intention was to replace it with a combo valve, A DIN valve with the insert so I could use my yoke/regulator on my Alum. 80's and my high pressure 100. Does that clear the mud I kicked up?

This might clear up some confusion:

Until recently, it worked as follows: "High-Pressure" steel SCUBA cylinders (i.e., 3500 psi) were manufactured with the smaller 7/8 UNF threaded openings, and all other steel and aluminum SCUBA Tanks were manufactured with larger 3/4 NPS threaded openings. Then in 2003, Pressed Steel Tank Company introduced their new high-pressure 3442 psi E-series cylinders, and they elected to revert to the 3/4 NPS threaded opening. This was followed by similar designs from Faber and Worthington. So now there are two different high-pressure steel SCUBA Tanks in wide use, the older 3500 psi cylinders with 7/8 UNF threaded opening and the newer 3442 psi cylinders with 3/4 NPS threaded opening.

Here is the entire article: http://www.diveriteexpress.com/library/valves.shtml

You might consider converting you reg to DIN if a kit is available. You can still use yolk valve tanks with an adaptor on your reg.
