Default computer brands

I need to buy a computer or gauge console, I am new to the equipment, but I do know I want to go with the computer/gauge combo. I know Suunto is a good brand since all they make is watches and wrist computers. What are the other worthy brands and are there any I should stay away from?

Any name brand will do fine. I would only suggest that it be non-air integrated: in other words, there is a seperate mechanical air pressure gauge on the console. I have a Mares MC2 that I am quite happy with.
Also, you might as well go for one that does Nitrox, you will eventually want it.

I dive with an air integrated computer (not the transmitter type) and love it. That said, having had an unfortunate incident where a non-air integrated computer packed up on me I now have a seperate console giving depth and air pressure as back up.

Redundancy is all!!
