Default Genisis React vs. Suunto Gekko?

Help me choose! Any opinions on these two? Both are console versions and seem very comparable to each other. Input is much appreciated!

I have the Suunto Vyper. The only difference between that and the Gekko is the vyper can act as a bottom timer. I love my computer. As I get older and my eyes fade I wish the numbers were bigger. Dive Rite makes a similar model but with larger numbers so it's easier to read. I can't speak to the Genisis. Just make sure it's nitrox compatible and you can understand it. You don't want to be pressing a lot of bottons at depth to figure out something. I'm glad to see you not considering an air integrated unit. Redundancy is good! If something should happen to the computer you still have depth and gas! I doubt you could go wrong with either. Try them both out at the LDS and ask questions. Make sure you understand it and pick the one that works for you. Then go get it wet!

i also have a gekko. just got it awhile back. i think it is ok. it does not have downloading capability but i won`t need it. i do not however think it is the "easiest" to use all the funtions. it seemed quite complicated to me. i did read alot of reviews saying the manuals could have been written better, so i knew what i was getting. i`ve said it before but i`ll say it again. checkout "divetank.com" for suunto stuff. they also sell of a lot of "barely used" computers as well.

I'm not a big fan of Suunto computers. I've never owned one but I've seen plenty of people who dive them having really short bottom times.

You can adjust the suunto to be more or less conservative. Having babysat some one for two trips to the chamber I'll take consevative.

Yea but there's conservative and there's CONSERVATIVE. I remember a dive in PR with a woman who was diving one. She had just gotten it and may have had it set more conservative but she claimed it was set for the least conservative setting.

Thing is she was diving nitrox and still had to come up before all the other divers who were on air.

Dollars to donuts she didn't have it set on nitrox. I also suspect she didn't manage her bottom time at all. I am usually among the last up. My dive buddies have a variety of mfg's including dive rite, scuba pro and others. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the equipment.

This seems to comes up now and then. whats so bad about air integrated units, for computers ?? do computers fail all that often it needs to be a big concern?

(I'm new so sorry about all the questions)
