Default Masks... where can the manufacturers improve?

I'm in constant contact with various manufacturers of scuba masks. Companies like Sherwood Scuba, Aeris, Oceanic, XS Scuba, Cressi Sub... and from time to time they express a desire to know where they can improve.... we've given them our suggestions when we have them, but I'd love to hear what you have to say about a fairly personal item in your dive gear.... your mask.

Everyone seems to have a strong opinion of them.... what they like or dislike, so I'm curious to hear what you think can be improved upon with the production of masks. I plan on giving feedback to the manufacturers, and who knows... maybe they kick down a freebe for the best response so fire away!

i'm often annoyed by the sides of the masks who tend to iiritate me in a way. I realy would like a system where you would forget that you even have one on, well as much as possible that is!

Wouldn't it be cool if you could just pop in a pair of contacts that would let you see underwater. Headaches, blood-shot eyes, clearing, etc. would be non-existent.

awesome idea lucas... that would be nice. I would much prefer that over the mask.... although I occasionally go diving in murky, gross water. So I like the fact that the mask keeps all the junk out of my eyes and nose

How bout a mask that could somehow have a built in compass... maybe just a red dot that always showed you which way north was?

That would be handy

That's already available. I can't remember who makes it but we go to this industry expo in Las Vegas every year and they had one. Originally it was used for the military (they get the cool stuff first). Not only does it have a built in compass but it also functions as a wireless computer, showing you air and everything else. Pretty cool. If I find out who makes it, I'll post it here.

Ya, It didn't have a price tag on it at the convention, but it looked awesome! It would basically combine the dive computer and mask into 1. Be a sad day if you lost the mask though eh?

Talking Mask Straps

I would like to see an improvement in mask straps. They should be easy to use at the frame area. Easy on the hair or head which ever the case, with out having to buy extra pieces. They should have and easy way to be cliped to your BCD. I would like to see a resoultion to the mask on the forehead. New divers do this alot, if fogs the mask. Most of them do not like putting it around the neck they find it uncomfortable. If they hold it most will drop it at one point or another. Fix the part the part that holds it on the head and you will see divers with less mask problems.

scuba jerm/stranded in Daytona

I think the mask in question was a prototype that was introduced by Scubapro. It had a 'heads up' display which was transmitted from a transponder fitted to the first stage of the regulator. Unfortunately, I don't think I ever saw a price quoted.

Not sure if it ever reached the store shelves!

Regards
