Default SILHOUETTE BC okay?

I'm about to buy my first BC and I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on it... especialy for a beginner. (Sherwood Silhouette) Thanks very much!

We have been using the Sherwood Silhoutte for about 10 years on my fire departments dive team. Never had any prblems. They are jacket style with plenty of pockets and excellent lift. As with any piece of scuba gear, do some research, especially online. Between the various forums and gear reviews you can make a good decision. I personally use a Genesis Cobra. I found this to be a sturdy vest with good lift and not alot of dangly things.

Sherwood makes a good BC, no doubt about that. However when you consider purchasing a BC you'd better be sure it has all you will need now and later (as your diving experiance grows). Here is a few things I like to look for in a BC:

1. Does it have non-dumpable weight pockets in the back?
2. Does the BC have pouches for dumpable weight in the front?
3. Large pockets?
4. Does it have strap over the chest area?
5. If it's jacket style BC, when fully inflated does the BC inflate away from the divers torso, or does it squeeze?

That is just the basics for now.... to me the Silhouette looks very entry level, but if you like it... you like it. But make sure you like the BC based on what it can do for you rather than buying it because of price.

For my money... I like the Nekton, or Advantage BC made by XSScuba. Something to consider.
