Question Tanks

Concerning tanks: What do you dive normally and why?

Steel or Aluminum?
80 or larger?
Single or Doubles?

Besides weight, is there really a difference between steel and aluminum that makes you go to one or the other?

I mostly dive with Aluminum 80's. I dive with a single. I dive it because its what I own and what the shop uses. In the start of a dive the Aluminum are easier to deal with because they are lighter. If you go in and out as much as I do the lighter tank is easier to deal with.

If I get the opportunity to dive steel I do so. I love that I can take weights off the belt and not worry with the tank when the drained down I won't be come floaty in the back. I enjoy them mostly on trips but its hard to find shops overseas who carry steel.

Depending on what the dive is, double steel 108's or single steel 121's. I like carrying lots of gas! Oh, and AL 80's as stage bottles.

Aluminium cylinders over in the UK are almost totally extinct! Lots of problems having them serviced and the IDEST regulations have made the cost of servicing them expensive.

Depending on the dive and conditions I will dive twin 12 litres with 7 litre side slungs or 15 litre with a 3 litre pony.

I like to carry lots of gas too.

120lp's for me. If I get the "divemaster fill" It's like having doubles!
