ok what is the difference between all the thickness wetsuits. like 2, 2/3, 3, 5, 3/5/3, 6/5/4, 6, 7. My question more pretains to the 2/3, 3/5/3 and 6/5/4 like what are those excatly and what are they used for?
The numbers refer to suits that use different thicknesses of neoprene for different parts of the suit. The higher number is usually for the torso which is where you want the most protection, the lower number(s) for arms and/or legs where warmth is sacrificed for added mobility.

Depending on where and the water temperature of your dives determines which suits are best for you. Since I dont like being cold I use a 3/2 hyperstrech for tropical diving (80-70) with zippers partially open on the first dives and by the 3rd of the day I am zipped up. For southern Cal (San Diego to LA 70-60) I use a 5 in summer and a dual 7 for winter. I remember one oil rig dive off Santa Barbara with 56 degree water at the surface at 49 degrees at depth for which I wish I had a dry suit. I dont like shorty suits having been nicked by jellys. Hope this helps
