Default when it rains

This may seem completely stupid but do you dive when it rains? I know of many people who don't and i was wondering why, you're bound to get wet anyway no?

the second time i ever dived ( only 2 till now ) it was raining and it didn't realy seem to affect any of the people who were diving at that moment, once i was underwater i even completely forgot that it was raining...

I've surfed while it rained... hard.. didn't bother me then... couldn't see it being an issue while diving, you are surrounded by water.. whats the big deal?

exactly!
It isn't as if it was about not getting wet.... I actualy love the smell of things under the rain and it adds a certain charm

Well Said, ADiver! The rain does add something to be desired... charm is a good way to put it.

Charm is not the word I would have come up with. Under the water the biggest thing going for you is vis (unless your in a quarry). It depends on the type of rain storm, strong will pick up the current and shake up the water knocking down the vis. If you have to surface swim any of the dive it can be down right spooky if there is lighting.

I have been in a couple of dives and not noticed it was raining until I neared the surface, vis was dropping out (light rain storm). I have also seen lighting from below its just spooky at some point you will have to exit in that storm. As far as the smell if your scuba diving (your nose is in the mask) what smell. Last thing is while your diving unless you have your clothes in a dry bag they are getting soaked.

No, Charm is not the word I would have picked.

Rain won't bother you but the run-off usually hurts visibility, and the wind and surface chop don't help.

Mild rain won't stop me. On the other hand, if it is raining there's a chance of lightning. And that can strike up to 30 miles laterally out from where you see it. If it strikes while you are in the water yes, you can be electrocuted. So diving while there is ANY chance of lightning is a very bad idea.
