It has been years since my last dive. I am about to take a refresher course, but I am considering a dive computer that is air only. How deep can I safely go without nitrox?
scubajoe is right, check with your instructor and he will be able to explain more fully.
On another thread MgicTwnger does advise someone that they might want to buy themselves a computer that is Nitrox compatible and I would agree. You will probably qualify Nitrox sometime down the line and you will be saving yourself the cost of having to buy a Nitrox computer later.
Maybe my question shouldn't be "how deep can I go", but rather, what are the benefits of diving nitrox. Why would I want to do it in the future? I would ask my instructor, but I hope to purchase a computer before I take the class...
Nitrox can give you more bottom time and less nitrogen asorbtion. The depth is limited because the additional oxygen can be toxic below a certain depth and/or amount asorbed. The computer monitors this as well as nitrogen level.
