If he can't just "do you a favor" and not drink before you dive with him, he's an alcoholic and needs help.

If he's a certified diver and he doesn't understand why he shouldn't be drinking, someone shouldn't have issued his certification.

That's like having three shots and saying "Yeah, I can drive now". No, you can't. If you wouldn't get in his car when he was drunk, don't dive with him when he's drinking either. The odds are he's been drinking way more and you're only seeing the last two or three. Diving with a chronic alcoholic isn't my idea of safe diving. If he can't wait until after the dive--he's an alcoholic.

drink after you dive....remember that it impairs your sense even more while diving, than it does when you drive. It just takes one small mistake, to take your life and/or even your buddies life. Think before you drink!
