I carry a 6' tube and a whistle. Never had to use them.
I would question the ones that inflate from your BC: why add that complication when they are so easy just to blow up?

Same as Mgictwnger, 6' bright tube and whistle. Mostly I use my head and think so I don't get lost and I follow my dive plan.
