How much weight can I redistribute to tanks and other areas before it will effect my assent, in the event that I should have to dump my weights

Rule of thumb is 2/3 to 3/4 should be ditchable in a weight belt or pockets. The bottom line is that you must be able to ascend with full tanks after ditching that weight.
The only way to get your trim right is practice, experiment, practice some more. Other things that effect your trim are how high up your tank(s) are, placement of the bladder if it is moveable like with a backplate/wings configuration, weight of you fins and other gear, placement of other gear, etc.

Thank you, That answered my question. But redistributing some of the weight it allows me to achive better bouancy control. I happen to live at least 5 hours from any warm water, so most of my diving is with a 7 mm
wet suit. That has required at least 10 extra pounds of lead. So moving it around help keep you balanced.

Pray tell, how much lead are packing when you dive?

When you dive in your 7mil is it fresh or salt?

You don't have to pray that I will tell you. I would give that information willingly. Most of my diving is in fresh water. Like mentioned before it is 6 hours to salt water. I usually make it to the ocean 2 or 3 times a year.

Jim, I also redistribute when I'm diving my 7mm. My BC only has two weight pockets so I added two OMS weight pouches on my upper tank band. When I dive thinner suits, I put all the weight in the BC pockets because there isn't much. When I dive my 7mm, I use 16 lbs.; a 5lb in each BC pocket and then a 3lb in each tank band pouch. Makes my trim better with the thicker suits but I'm also still dumping the majority of my weight if I have to dump.
