Default aspiring U/W videographer needs sum tips

hey ive recently purchased a sony hc-7 video cam and i want to get the new gates housing to go along with it ...

problem is i know nothing about white balance? do i need to add that control to the housing or is it something i can just preset on my camera.

will the flat port do the trick or do i need to break the bank and get the wide angle port??

i more than likely will be primarily in tropical waters and from what ive seen none of the photogs have used lights when filming the students and sealife that i will be filming so im not worried about that just yet

i do need some adive on a good video editing program as well. nothing to crazy just something thats gonna help me make good movies w/out requiring a degree in editing.

thanks and dive on divers
