Question 1000 Islands Ontario Diving

Has anyone ever dove around the 1000 Islands (links to follow)?
I'm thinking of making a week long trip there, its only about a 3.5 / 4 hour drive from home but as I'm looking up info on the net I'm not sure about the prices for the diving trips, if they are rip-off or not.... I was almost thinking of just getting a group of friends and making some off land dives.
I have included some links so let me know what you people think, most of the time all I do is day trips to quarries so this would be alittle different.

I have never been diving but this location is not far from me.

What are some things for beginning divers to keep in mind?

Are there "diving tours" that you can go on to learn?

Any real safety concerns or are you basically OK as long as you have a good instructor?
