Default Florida Keys in July - where to stay?

My wife and I are headed to Florida keys for 9 days (Sat - Sun) of diving. I would like recommendations for places to stay in both Key West and Key Largo. Figure we would do the top and the bottom. Key West first then move up to Key Largo. Would like to do one day of exploring the Everglades and it looks like we could do that from Key Largo. Any recommendations from 2 star hotels on up just as long as they are clean. On the a beach or near water would be nice.

I would also like recommendations on dive operators.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Chris

Don't know about Key West, but I stay in Tavernier (just south of Largo) at Ocean Point Suites and dive with Conch Republic.

First visit to Key West I stayed at the Holiday Inn...clean and adequate, but not really walking distance to the main part of town. Just got back from Spring Break trip there where we rented part of a house that was more than adequate for 4 people and ended up costing about $200 a night. The location was perfect and we were able to save money by eating in for breakfast and occasionally lunch. Last time I dove Key West it was really helpful to have a car for gear.

I'm not sure what dates your going to be in the Keys but I have townhouses and condo's that are only $125.00 night flat rate no other charges, they are clean and very nice. They are at Kawama Yacht Club in Key Largo. MM100 I have hooked up with silent World so between the two of us your stay will be not only enjoyable but affordable. Please see my web site for one of the units and Kawama Yacht Clubs 30 Acres.

I have 10 units is Kawama's and one in the tower on the 3rd floor overlooking the Atlantic Ocean ALL FOR THE SAME PRICE. I have people from scubaboard and spearboard stay thier all the time.

We have stayed at the Marriott in Key Largo before, that was great but expensive. "It's a Dive" is a great dive shop on the property.
In July we are going back to Key Largo and will stay at the Tropic Vista for less then 80 dollars a night, with a dive shop on the property as well. Hope it works out ..

Default Key Largo Diving

We stayed in the Marriot last Feb. If you contact Horizon Divers, they can get you a reduced rate at the Marriot, Holiday Inn or Marina Del Mar. I think we paid $79-99 a night. Their shop is within walking distance of the hotels and they are wonderful! We got our boys (ages 10 and 12) certified with them while we were staying there. Hope that helps!

Yes and it is a hole in the wall, It is very dirty and has bugs, unless they have put ALOT of money into it and changed it, I would never send anyone there. That place is a dump and I'm not kidding you at all.
Before we moved to the Keys I had called this place to book a 2 week stay, I asked them what they had they told me they made it sound so nice, so I booked our stay, When we got there it was about 10pmat night so she told us where our room was we opened the door turned on the lights and the bugs were everywhere on the walls floors even on our beds. The room was very small and the bathroom was black with mold in the corners. My husband went back up to the front and asked if she had any clean rooms so she said it would cost us 49? more a night so we said can we see it and she said it was the best room she had two queen beds a kitchen bath small table to eat at, off we went up the stairs We had her go with us on this trip, and as soon as she turned on the lights the bugs were everywhere just like the other room. My husband said we could not stay in a place like that could we have our money back, she said policy would only allow her to give us back half of our money. And no matter what my husband said to her that is all we got back. We went down the road and stayed at the Holiday Inn which was ok for us at least we didn't have to worry about all the bugs. Our trip cost us more money than what we would have liked but we still had a good time.
In fact it was that trip that we decided to purchase a house here in the Keys, so before we left we purchased a house and moved our family here.
Please check out this place before you pay any money see if it was sold and if so did they cleaned it up , I was just by there today and it still looks like the same old dump that I have always none it to be.
I am not one to say bad things about a place unless I am asked, By george you asked so I'm going to tell you like it is. I'm sorry for the bad news.

Ouch ... I was afraid you are going to come back with something like that.
It is owned by a corporation now, they were of course nice on the phone and only needed a one night deposit. So I guess I will ask to see the room before I would give them any more money and if it's as bad as you say it is go up the street to the Holiday Inn.
Thanks again ... will post an update when we return.
