I'm traveling to the Keys tomorrow and trying to pack tonight. My question is should I bother bringing my own gear or would it be better to rent there? I'm not planning on a lot of diving since I haven't been diving in a while and my BF will be taking a resort course. OTOH, I don't want to get soaked for rental stuff. Is it significantly cheaper to bring my own stuff? Bring mask, fins, snorkel, & reg and leave BC at home? Wetsuit? Any recommendations? What do you all do?

I bring it all. I just like diving with my own stuff. I know where it's been!

I was thinking the same thing...

A number of folks recommended packing my reg in my carry on, but that seems like a pain, esp since if I'm taking everything else, it'll be locked in the same bag. Any reason to carry it separately?

Aside from it's cost, rental regs often suck. Pun intended.

If I could carry on just one thing, it would be my mask because of fit and special lenses. I carry on masks, regs, computer and bottom timer. I'm really not that fussy about who's been peeing in the wetsuit.

I to carry on my computer and reg. The rest go with God. I hope to see them upon my arrival with the other bagage.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll be bringing all the goods and carrying on my reg and computer. (Thank God my pillow smooshes down to nothing!)
