Default Parents teaching DM

Call me a cynic if you like, But I'm sure that it is a good idear for parents to teach their kids to become Divemasters, Divemaster is a tough program of both skills & theroy & I am sure that doting parents would be tempted to take shortcuts on either the theroy or skills or even both. After all a qualified DM could be responsable for a number of divers while leading dives & by taking shortcuts could not only put their sons or daughters in danger as well as the people they are responsable for.

I feel like I came in a middle of a conversation. Parents teaching DM, I taught my classes were I have to swift the parents away from the kids. I find the parents will be harder on them then anyone else. The kid will not only represent himself as a divemaster but will be a reflection of his parents and their training. He would be better to learn from someone else just to have a different prospective of training. In this case the student will still have to pass all the exams and swimming assessments just like every other candidate.

My point is that if this is being done for commercial reasons & the perent/ gardian is the instrucor that signs it of who is to say that the work has been done acording to standards.

Totally agree with you here Scuba Mama,

I'm a PADI MSDT and I taught my partners daughter to dive. I didn't to the Open water in four days. I did it until she got it right (took 6 days). I made sure that everything was done EXACTLY!!! as I wanted it. I'm an ex Royal Navy Diver and I was a bit tough but she's now a Divemaster and she's tough too.

I think if I tried to charge my family for diving training I would get a certain sensitive and dangly part of my body inside my trousers kicked very violently.
