Default Diving in Cuba

Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking at taking a holiday in Cuba for me and my family. One aspect that intrigues me is the possibility of diving in Cuba, but I’m a little concerned that my children (age 10 and 13) are a bit too young for it.

Any ideas? 

Since I don't know your nationality, I can only reply from an American perspective.
It is still illegal for us to go to Cuba. A local shop runs clandestine trips there, flying through Canada or Jamaica and bribing the Cuban immigration guy not to stamp your passport. The hotel is 3rd. rate and the diving only so-so.
As much as I would love to visit Cuba, I'm going to wait until my government gets it's head out of it's ***.

Hello fiona

I haven’t been diving in Cuba but I tried it in Egypt and my children loved it…they were a little older though... Diving can be dangerous not only for kids but while searching the net I came across this site http://www.captivatingcuba.com/recommended.php?id=4
which says that many Cuban hotels offer basic diving courses for beginners, so that may be worth looking into

Let me know how it was when you come back…I might go diving in Cuba next year if it’s as good as Egypt was!

Have a lovely holiday in Cuba… or wherever you decide on!

The diving in Cuba isn't that great. Of more concern to me is the standard of some of the equipment used by schools offering diving courses. It is old and, in most cases, has never been serviced.

Many of the schools out there have no real affiliation with any dive organisation. We have people coming to us here in the UK wishing to continue their diving education only to find out that the PADI course they took over in Cuba was never actually valid. PADI do not have any schools or instructors in Cuba.
